Music Managers Forum Canada is launching the first nation-wide study of music management in Canada. An in-depth data-backed picture of who music managers in Canada are, how they work, what their obstacles are, and what they need to build sustainable careers.

There are additional short-form surveys for music industry professionals to get a well-rounded understanding of the management sector’s impact. This research, led by Music Managers Forum Canada, has the potential to create a lasting, positive ripple effect on policymaking, industry standards, working conditions, training, services, advocacy, supports, and visibility for managers across the country.

Survey respondents will automatically receive discounts and be entered to win various prizes including $500 prepaid VISAs. (Please see more information about incentives below.)

Take the survey. Be counted. Help shape the future of music management in Canada.

  • Managers offer central support to artists throughout their careers. Their role is complex, requiring extensive music industry knowledge and skill. Negotiating contacts, securing deals, managing budgets, keeping the artist’s best interests in mind, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Management is also one of the most overlooked and under-celebrated sectors of the music industry. MMF Canada deeply believes that elevating managers means elevating the music industry as a whole. This study will secure the insights to back that up.

  • The Managers Survey is for you if you:

    • Manage at least one artist or music creator other than yourself

    • Play a role in guiding, representing, or developing someone’s music career

    You do not need to:

    • Manage full-time

    • Have a large roster

    • Own or work at a management company

If you are not an artist manager, please fill out one of these surveys:

    • Artists (either self-managed or working with a manager)

    • Record Labels & Music Publishers

    • Live Sector (Booking Agents or Promoters / Venue Owners)

    • Lawyers / Accountants / Brand & Business Partners

  • Manager’s Survey: 25–30 minutes

    • You can leave and return (same device/browser)

    • Best estimates are completely fine — no perfect numbers required
(Having a rough sense of income and weekly hours may help.)

Music Industry Professional Surveys: 2-3 minutes.

  • Since incorporating in 2000, MMF Canada has committed nearly 30 years to ensuring far-reaching and sustainable careers for its diverse membership base of music managers and self-managed artists, located across the country, and working in an array of genres.
