SESSION DESCRIPTION:

Canadian Heritage and CHRC are offering Respectful Workplaces in the Arts workshops to encourage better workplace practices and behaviours. The workshops cover information on Provincial legislation, definitions of harassment and bullying as well as case-studies to navigate the complexities of problematic situations. These workshops are not legal nor therapy clinics, they are conversations facilitated by experienced cultural sector leaders. Resources are discussed to help individuals and organizations towards contributing to better work environments and/or to develop their own policies/codes of conduct.

Note that this session will be interactive and participants will be encouraged to have their cameras and microphones on and to participate. There will also be multiple breaks embedded into the session to allow you to step away from the screen.

FACILITATOR:

FARAH FANCY (She/Her), Public Speaker/Consultant
(A.k.a Artist Doula, Shift Disturber, Cultural Stripper, Mommy, Fire-starter, Warrior)
Montreal, Quebec

As an international public speaker and consultant, she shifts mindsets and strips away norms to increase respect, inclusion and justice. Farah’s holistic approach as “Artist Doula”, fuses the arts, therapeutic techniques and ethnography for leaders to reduce shame, and improve self-worth, relevance and resiliency.  As an Indigenous woman not from this territory, and a divorced mom of two girls she commits to building a diverse community of leaders who are proud to be fearless and flawsome.

For 25 years, she has been working with organizations, institutions and communities using the arts and creativity as a tool to resolve structural problems and foster economic development, cultural understanding and innovation.  Her successes include facilitating programs and workshops for over 100,000 people, producing over 30 performances, implementing 6 community projects for social change, co-founding the Dance Movement Therapy Association in Canada and Le Groupe Herencias. Farah promotes a focus on identity, respect and empathy to decolonize behaviours so we can dare to be audaciously visible and aligned beings.
