Statement Against Anti-Asian Racism
MMF Canada stands strongly in support of our colleagues from Asian, Pacific Islander, and South Asian communities. We condemn the acts of violent terrorism committed against Asian women in Atlanta last week.
For community members seeking support, you can visit South Asian Therapists or the Asian Canadian Therapist Directory and for those working in the music industry, you can also register with Unison Benevolent Fund for free access to confidential counselling services.
For those looking to contribute to efforts to combat anti-Asian racism, visit Elimin8hate to read, learn, and donate.
MMF Canada is committed to helping build the infrastructure for a thriving, diverse, and equitable music industry. This is life-long work that will consist of many small, continuous actions including making mistakes, re-evaluating, and trying again. One of those actions is committing to annual anti-racism training for the board and staff.
We will be participating in anti-racism training on April 7, 2021, as part of this ongoing commitment to continuous growth and learning. This session will be followed up by a facilitated debrief session to discuss how to implement information from the training and to identify tasks and develop an anti-racism strategy, which we will share later this spring.
We will also be developing an outreach strategy with a focus on building meaningful partnerships with historically underrepresented and marginalized peoples and communities to ensure we are providing support and services in a meaningful way that contributes to an equitable music industry.
We maintain an anti-racism resources page to help you continue your learning/unlearning. It is a work in progress, so please reach out if you have a resource you feel should be added to the list.
