Towards A More Just and Equitable Industry
Dear MMF Canada members and community,
Like many other music organizations, we stood in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement by posting a statement on "Black Out Tuesday". We acknowledged that racism and white privilege are deeply rooted structures in our society and in our industry and that changes are necessary. We promised to adjust our priorities as an organization and make time to reflect on how we can influence change and work towards combating racial injustice in Canada.
These statements must be backed up with action. This is work that we are committed to doing and recognize that it will be an ongoing process. We'll be taking a short pause with our webinars and Community Chat sessions to do internal anti-racism work as an organization and seek viewpoints outside of our current community so that we can develop inclusive programming that meets the needs of a more diverse cross section of our industry. We want to come back with programming that makes space for Black voices, Indigenous voices, LGBTQ2+ voices, and voices from other marginalized communities.
While we are pausing some programming, we are still here for you. We are still in regular communication with the government ensuring that the challenges of managers and self-managed artists are understood and supported during these times and beyond. Our resource pages (see below) are still available to you and you can always reach out to us at info@mmfcanada.ca or 416-462-9160.
When we say we support and promote the profession of music management in Canada, we want to proudly say that it includes all of our music management colleagues regardless of their race, culture, sexual orientation, or abilities.
Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your support. We are looking forward to reporting back with our next steps to work towards a more just and equitable organization and industry.
Sincerely,
The Board and staff at MMF Canada
