Management Summit Summary

The 2019 MMF Canada Management Summit was held on Oct 8 at the Woodshed Studio in Toronto. The event saw a number of managers and self-managed artists gather to network and to learn from each other and from an array of speakers. First up was the Law Panel with Darlene Tonelli and Simon McGrath from Inter Alia Law, who shared a number of pointers around contracts and negotiation techniques before taking questions from the attendees. Next up was the Digital Marketing Panel moderated by Jake Gold (The Management Trust) with panelists Andrea Aguilar (A-Squared Creative), Erin Kinghorn (eEK! Productions), and Erin Smyth (Live Nation). Last but not least was the Management Panel moderated by Susan de Cartier (Starfish Entertainment)
featuring Helen Britton (Six Shooter Inc.), Ashley Poitevin (Entertainment One), and Joanne Setterington (Indoor Recess).

This was followed by the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM). MMF Canada President Meg Symsyk presented the financial statements for the previous year as well as sharing the annual report, which detailed the events and programs of the last year as well as upcoming events and plans for new programming. The night was capped off with a stint in the local pub continuing the conversations started during the summit and making new connections.
