MMF CANADA WEBINAR: Rights and Royalties with Songtrust

Are you maximizing the rights and royalties revenue stream for your artists? Join us at a special presentation from Songtrust for a tune-up!

How is a “song” defined, and what rights do you hold if you create a song? What are the different types of royalties that songwriters, producers, and master-recording owners are entitled to? How do the various CMOs, PROs and MROs work together to get artists paid? What is metadata and why does it matter? What are “black box” royalties? What is publishing administration?

This rights and royalties refresher from Songtrust will go over all of these topics and more in an informative session led by Publishing Associate, Maximilian Humbert. This webinar is suited for artists and managers of all experience levels.

Speaker: Maximilian Humbert, Publishing Associate (Songtrust)
Originally from Italy, I moved to Boston in 2016 and graduated from Northeastern University in 2020 with a degree in Music Industry and Economics. During my time in college I worked in artist management with Nettwerk and LoyalT, music marketing with GetIn!, and in the live sector. After graduating I spent a year managing artists, before joining Songtrust in 2021 as a Publishing Associate. My day-to-day mainly involves helping artists, managers, labels and publishers understand the music publishing landscape and showing them how to set up their royalty collections. In my free time I like to DJ, play the piano, go down YouTube rabbit holes, and occasionally over-explain music publishing to anyone who will listen.

ABOUT SONGTRUST

Songtrust administers over 3,000,000 songs for more than 350,000 clients, with 4,000 songs added each month. They collect from more than 60 global sources, covering 98% of the world’s music market on behalf of clients in 145 countries. Songtrust’s mission is to build a better music business. They work toward this mission by educating music creators and empowering them to manage their royalties directly, without giving up any of their rights.

Songtrust is working to change the historical underrepresentation of songwriters - especially independent songwriters - in the music industry’s power structure.  They provide education and an accessible rights management system to help songwriters understand their rights and collect their royalties, and are always searching for ways to simplify and unite the global music publishing industry.
