As the second installment of our series, this panel session delves deep into the art of making meaningful connections, building lasting relationships, and capitalizing on opportunities during international showcases and conference events. This session is geared to empower both artist managers and self-managed artists with the skills and knowledge essential to navigate the dynamic landscape of the global arts industry successfully.  We will discuss: 

  • Networking Strategies: Uncover effective networking techniques, both in person and in virtual settings, to create impactful connections that pave the way for future collaborations and partnerships.

  • Building Strong Alliances: Learn the art of relationship building with potential stakeholders, including agents, labels, promoters, and other influential figures in the music and arts sphere.

  • Seizing Opportunities: Discover how to identify and seize opportunities during showcase and conference events, and leverage them to elevate your artist's career on a global scale.

SPEAKERS:

Elise Roller, Misfit Music Management

Elise Roller, is the founder and CEO of Misfit Music MGMT, an artist development and management company in Winnipeg, Canada. In 2023, she was recognized as the WIMC Entrepreneur of the Year in addition to receiving other awards and nominations for her strength in leadership. Her management roster includes artists Leonard Sumner, Sierra Noble, and Super Duty Tough Work. She also serves hard-working and talented artists who require team support on a project-to-project basis offering mentorship, strategic planning, and equipping music entrepreneurs with the skills needed to manage their own careers through Misfit’s Artist Evolution program. She’s a social butterfly, master networker, and has an innate ability to connect with anyone and everyone. Her drive for excellence along with her passion to motivate, inspire, and show appreciation for music creators has positioned her as a beloved leader and mentor within the global music community.

Tennyson King, Artist

Tennyson King is a nomadic indie folk musician from Hong Kong and Canada performing in Canada, Australia, and Asia. His 2022 album ‘Good Company’, produced by Juno nominee Ross Hayes Citrullo has been featured on CBC Radio, SiriusXM, Stingray Music, OMNI TV Mandarin & Cantonese, The RepresentASIAN Project, Exclaim!, and more. It has gained over 70K streams, with music videos over 90K YouTube views. In May 2021, he released his first Chinese single 生命的进度 and 自在 in support of Asian Heritage month. He strives to represent the Chinese community in his musical endeavours and aims to be an inspiration for young Asian musicians. He recently won Songwriter of the Year at the 2022 Mississauga Music Awards and is nominated for the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Finishing 2022 off with an Australian tour, 2023 will see Tennyson touring in the United Kingdom for the first time and performing at Knockengorroch Festival in Scotland. His up-coming work will combine traditional Chinese music and his style of indie folk. He is working with traditional Chinese musicians based in Toronto, Vancouver and Australia to write this album, which will be titled 百城 (100 Cities), which is also Tennyson’s Chinese name.Tennyson has captured audiences worldwide with his reverberant and earthy folk-rock blend, jovial personality, and intimately humorous lyrical storytelling. It’s a raw, gritty, and organic sound that makes the soul feel wild and the heart comforted.

Umong Shah, Fortitude Music // Future Echoes

Umong started his career immediately after graduating from University of Hertfordshire with a degree in Music and Entertainment Industry Management. Having played many roles Umong has been a musician (October Sky), Operations Manager (Awdio), Binaural Studio Installer (Jawbone) and Festival Curator and promoter (Summer Sizzler 2013 & 2014). Umong currently curates Future Echoes’ (Sweden) conference and writing camp, Future Songs – now in its second year. 

 Umong attends and participates at international renowned conferences such as The Great Escape and SXSW delivering or moderating panels on artist development and relationship management. As a manager, he has develop artist international careers, and grown supportive teams around releases and live campaigns. Umong has now created a consulting division of Fortitude Music with an array of talented and inspiring customers, each needing specialist services to grow their career.
